Fr Pat who died suddenly and unexpectedly on the Feast of the Sacred Heart 7 June 2013 in his Presbytery at St. John Bosco Parish Westridge, will be sadly missed by literally thousands of people whom he ministered to over 40 years in the Archdiocese of Cape Town.  His Salesian Communities will also miss him - he was a friend and support to all of us.

Fr Pat was an intrepid and dynamic missionary.  He brought the Faith to so many through his labours as a Salesian Priest.  His catechetical and scriptural writings for the children and adults over the years, enriching the minds and hearts of so many, will be used for many years.

Fr Pat will be remembered for the Catholic communities he built up in Hanover Park, Westridge, Rocklands, Lentegeur, Tafelsig and Strandfontein, where he built six churches, but being a peoples person, his Christian Community building was more important to Fr. Pat.  He loved his Parishioners wherever he was asked to serve.

At one time he was called away from his Pastoral Ministry in Parish work by our Superiors in Rome, to serve as Provincial Superior for Southern Africa for six years - a task he took in his stride and served his brother Salesians with great love.

We let you go Fr Pat because we feel you have accomplished your work here.  May you now find rest and peace from your labours.

Send-off to Fr Pat on the 14 June 2013

Here are a few shots of the vigil mass in Westridge and the requiem mass in OLHC the next day. Both ceremonies had capacity crowds. In his homily on the Thursday evening, Bishop-emeritus Lawrence Henry confered the title of "Apostle of Mitchells Plain" on Fr Pat! The next day there were over 60 priests and a bishop and 2 Archbishops concelebrating in a very beautiful mass. Please remember Regulation 76, point 1 in our Holy Rule, and let us continue to keep him in prayer. May he rest in peace.
