On Tuesday 30 June 2015, Fr Francois Dufour (AFM Salesian Provincial), Fr Robert Gore and the SPDO staff had the pleasure of meeting the Irish Ambassador to South Africa, Mr Liam MacGabhann.  The Ambassador arrived at the SPDO office in Booysens and went on to view some of the Salesian projects run in Johannesburg. Mr Liam MacGabhann, accompanied by Fr Robert and Gail, first visited the Sancta Maria Early Learning Centre (SMELC) in Finetown. Sr Lidia Castro, a native from Chili, was hosting a holiday camp for the youngsters at SMELC.

Sr Lidia joined the visitors to tour the Laura Vicuna Early Learning Centre (LVEC) and Declan Collins Skills Centre (DCSC), both situated in Ennerdale . Mr MacGabhann viewed the Permaculture Garden which provides nutritional produce to feed the learners.

The group then proceeded to

the Don Bosco Educational Projects (DBEP) Hall, Welding Workshop and LVEC Library where the computer centre  is currently being set up. The final stop was the IVECO Training Centre.

Mr MacGabhann was very impressed with the projects and he thoroughly enjoyed his visit.
