Don Bosco Prayer Potrait 225x300The Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), commonly referred to as the “Salesians” belong to a Religious Congregation of priests and brothers in the Roman Catholic Church. We live and work in communities in approximately 130 countries of the world.

In Southern Africa (AFM = Africa Meridianale) we have formed seven communities, working in South Africa, Swaziland and Lesotho.

These communities usually manage their own youth development activities, which range from youth oratories and schools to skills training programmes and HIV/Aids interventions.

The communities are located in: Cape Town at the Salesian Institute, and at Lansdowne at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish. Gauteng at the Bosco Youth Centre near Walkerville; the Pre-Novitiate and Don Bosco Educational Projects in Ennerdale; and at Ozanam House in Booysens. Swaziland there are 2 communities in Manzini and Malkerns; and Lesotho in Maputsoe and Maseru. You can find a community's contact details as well as the members on the Communities page.

Information regarding the projects under the auspices of these communities can be found on the Projects page. Some projects have developed their own websites – see our Links page for these as well as for websites of other Salesian Provinces.

The Salesian Family in Southern Africa is composed not only of the Salesian Brothers and Priests (SDB) but also the Salesian Sisters (FMA); Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (MSMHC); Lay Collaborators, Volunteers and Lay Missionary Partners.
